Al Palmer, the found of Al Palmers Repairs completed his training as an automotive mechanic with Toyota at Blacktown and York Motors in Sydney 1970. Al commenced business in 1974 at St Marys, west of Sydney. Al grew the company by employing young mechanics, apprentices and providing quality service, repairs, and overhauls to all vehicles but specialising in Toyota cars and commercials for which he had been trained for.
In 1985 the company moved to the larger city of Penrith about 10km West of St Marys. In 1990 Al purchased a piece of land at South Penrith and in 1996 a new purpose built factory was built to house Al Palmer Repairs Penrith which is where we are today.
The company employs seven people full-time and has continued to service and maintain all types of vehicles but still specialising in Toyota and Lexus. Al Palmer Repairs won its first industry awards in 1996 and again in 1997 and 1998. As well as customer satisfaction awards in 1999, 2000 and 2003. The business has a high profile in the Penrith area and beyond and continues to support and sponsor local sporting groups and charities. The company celebrated its 30 year anniversary.
Al Palmer has been involved in car racing since 1975 including circuit racing, hillclimbs and rallying including participating in 10 Variety Club and Flying Doctor Outback Treks. Al has owned several MR2s and currently has a ZZW30 and races it in supersprints and hillclimbs. He also races a 1966 classic Toyota Corona in events such as Speed on Tweed.
Al Palmer collects classic Toyotas and currently holds 10 vehicles in his collection, attained both locally and on trips to Japan where he also attends the major car shows and auctions. Also bringing performance and other parts back to Australia and visiting the Toyota museum, factory, TRD and Tom’s headquarters.
