History of ACT MR2 Owners Club

Since 2003

The enthusiasts of the Toyota MR2s in Canberra have been members of the NSW or VIC clubs. However, due to the travel distance, the effort required to attend NSW or VIC club events were difficult and the club decided to run local events in Canberra since 2003. The club was ran by the former club presidents – Pablo Colmenares, Alex von Brandenstein, Paul Castillo, Anthony Oh, Elric Hindy, Troy van Dongen and various committee members.

For a number of years, the club ran monthly drive to Brindabella with regular meetings at the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station while enjoying the winding mountain roads. With local driving schools, we ran various driver training days and skidpan days for MR2 owners to learn about their car dynamics. We regularly received event invitations from other local car clubs such as Canberra Celica Group.

Unfortunately, the majority of club members were either starting new families, expanding their career opportunities outside Canberra or Australia, continuously fixing their MR2 or simply wanting to own different/newer cars. Toyota has stopped production of MR2 since 2005 and interest in MR2 has been lost. The club members were disbanded due to these reasons.

The club is run by the members with their enthusaism and passion for their motor vehicles. We are hoping to find these again.
